The boys team ended their league season with a win against San Fernando before starting the Division II playoffs.

The bottom line | The boy’s basketball team won 80-60 against the Carson Colts in the first round of the 2022 CIF LA City Section Boys’ Basketball Championships (Division II).

What’s next | The Wolves will face the Legacy Tigers next on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m.

The Tigers went 14-7 overall and 8-4 in the Eastern league, which was only good enough for third in their season.

In the tournament, the Wolves are favored over the Tigers but Legacy has proved themselves to be a challenge with a 50-42 win over Verdugo Hills. If the Wolves win this game, they will head to the semi-finals on Feb. 23.

Our thoughts | This will not be an easy win but it is one that the Wolves have fought for all season long. The team is fast and aggressive and has proven themselves capable under Coach Evan Porter.

They have seen playoff success in recent years so I believe that it is very possible to go all the way to the finals. A win in their final game at home and their first playoff win should give them the confidence in their own shots and the knowledge that they could beat the Tigers.

A loss here would be a disappointing end to a stellar season.

For the books |

  • 16 wins, 7 losses
  • 7 wins, 2 losses in the league
  • Division: Valley Mission
  • 1 win in the playoffs
