BOYS BASKETBALL: The Wolves Boys Basketball Team fall at the buzzer.

Devin Tse | Sports Editor
March 5, 2018

The Boys Basketball Team faced off against King Drew High School on Friday, Mar.2.

The Division 2 championship match began with an immense offensive pressure from both sides. The Wolves gained the upper hand in the first quarter, as multiple baskets from Tyree Winborn gave Van Nuys a seven point lead. In the second quarter, Ethan Quiambao’s playmaking abilities allowed the Wolves to score with relative ease as power forward Matthew Sykes and guard Mijuhaim Ali began to warm up to the game.

Defensively, the Wolves were able to pickpocket the Golden Eagles and swat their layup attempts. In the second half, King Drew responded to these plays as they began scoring from the low-post. Both teams exchanged the lead several times until finally, the game waned into its final minutes. Winborn scored the game-tying three pointer with 24.2 seconds left but King Drew player Ethelbert Anum would score the game winning putback at the last second.

Final Score: 62-60

NEXT GAME: Van Nuys vs Wiseburn- Da Vinci on Wednesday, Mar.7 at 7:00 pm.
