Slicing Through The Competition

SPORTS: A dominant regular season brings high expectations as playoffs are approaching.
Powerful serves captivate the crowd as the Girl’s Tennis Team aces their way to victory.
Often sweeping their opponents in straight sets, Van Nuys utilized their forehand and backhand swings to their advantage.
Senior Captain Nithya Ravichandran is known for setting up her dominant forehands. She starts up with delicate backhands, often surprising her opponent as it makes them scrabble for the ball, forcing a weak return if hit.
With the set-up complete, Ravichandran returns the ball with a smashing forehand across the court, scoring herself the point.
On Thursday, Oct.5, Van Nuys clinched second place in the league as they crushed their rival league, the Sylmar Spartans. The Wolves dominated both their singles and doubles matches. Raman and Aman Dail had 8-0 victories for the singles matches. As for the doubles, the complementary pair of Claire Lee and Elissa Choi cruised to a 8-2 win.
Being a part of the team for her fourth year, Captain Ravichandran witnessed the development of the program before her very eyes.
“As a team, we continuously improve ourselves. Every time we step on the court, we give it our all,” Ravichandran said.
After dominating their way through the regular season, the team’s real challenge begins at playoffs where they face the top notched teams of Division 1.
With an 8-1 league record and an 8-3 overall record, Van Nuys faces their First Round Playoff Match on Thursday, Nov. 2.
