Our Goal
LAUSD's budget leaves the award-winning journalism program at Van Nuys High School with a $0 budget in the upcoming school year. Without YOUR support, The Mirror cannot cover its expenses, hurting students directly and putting something that took years to build at genuine risk of falling behind.
Please consider making a donation to cover other VNHS journalism program expenses this school year
about the contributors
Joel Nam, Editor-in-Chief
Joel Nam is a third-year journalism student who, after heading the Opinion section for two years, is now leading The Mirror as co-Editor-in-Chief. As a lifelong consumer of stories, he often searches for new movies, books and Webtoons to invest in. Career-wise, he intends to blend his passions for literature and helping others, and is determined to become the best English teacher ever. Joel’s childhood was defined by Yugioh, Pokemon, the “Wings of Fire” series and the “Percy Jackson” series. He dreams of traveling to Europe to see the Northern Lights and indulging in his love for food along the way. Outside of school, he most enjoys playing tennis and spending time with family.
Abigail Kim, Layout & Design Editor
Abigail Kim is a third year writer and the Graphics Design editor. The power of a good book is a force Kim readily succumbs to. Her greatest wish as a returning journalist is to communicate the wonderful quirks of the world through her perspective and to share the divine opinions of every viewpoint. In her spare time, she crafts stories and enjoys cafe-hopping around the valley. Abigail’s greatest passion in life is to spread the love of Jesus Christ. On a separate note, when she’s not hunched over her computer, you can find her watching movies or searching for the perfect aesthetic.
Maya Diaz, Associate Online Editor-in-Chief
Maya Diaz is a senior and The Mirror’s online editor. This is her second year in journalism and she also has taken on the responsibility of being the program’s social media manager. Outside of journalism, she is training to work in the music industry as either a producer or recording artist. Her other hobbies include studying arts and literature, crafting handmade jewelry, and video production. She leads the VNHS Choral Program as president and has participated in Van Nuys’ rich digital media, theatre, and instrumental programs as well. After high school, she is committed to attending Loyola University New Orleans to pursue a degree in popular and commercial music.
