Skateside Fest

If you want to experience a mix of action sports, workshops, live music and much more entertainment this weekend, visit the skateside fest during May 30-31, 2026, from 10 a.m to 5 p.m., this event at the park is divided into three sections: Skate Park Zone, Roller Skate Zone and Family Fun Zone. The entry to get in is completely free for all, you do not need to own a skateboard for roller skates as there are some you can loan at no charge. Skateside Fest offers free lessons to beginners if you would like to learn. If you are interested, everyone entering the active skate areas must sign a liability waiver before participating in any lessons or jams.

Mama Mia!

The popular musical Mama Mia! is returning to Los Angeles at the end of May. The show is known for its upbeat story and songs by ABBA, including hits like “Dancing Queen” and “The Winner Takes It All.” Even people who are not into musicals often recognize the music, which makes the show feel more fun and open. Ticket prices are around $10 to $40, so if you are interested, you should definitely buy them quickly before they sell out! Doors open at 5:30 p.m., so come and experience the mix of live music, comedy and familiar songs that make it easy to enjoy even if it’s your first musical.

Encino Fest

This Sunday on May 31, 2026 is the 2nd Annual Encino Fest, a free public event lasting from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Encino Park. The neighborhood gathering features live music, community performances, food trucks and icecream, with no ticket required at entry. If you’re wondering what to do Sunday, you can do a quick drive over there and have fun.

Melany Agababyan, a freshman, is on the staff of The Mirror, the award-winning student newspaper and website at Van Nuys High School in Los Angeles. She enjoys watching movies and hanging out with her friends when she’s free from stacks of homework. After school, she likes meeting up with her cousins to play volleyball or heading home to spend time with her family. Agababyan has a strong passion for reading and writing about her interests. She is currently focusing on mastering her high school years to attend a university with a strong pre-med program. After graduation, she wants to travel around the world, with Ireland, Japan, Italy and Korea on her list of destinations.
Jacob Hostetler
Jacob Hostetler, Staff Writer
Jacob Hostetler, a freshman, is on the staff of The Mirror, the award-winning student newspaper and website at Van Nuys High School in Los Angeles. One thing he is passionate about other than journalism is engineering and robotics. Besides that, Hostetler is interested in playing video games, and a personal favorite is “Counter-Strike 2.” A place he would love to visit is Yosemite, California, because of the beautiful nature, which is why it’s No. 1 on his to-go list. Interested in attending UCLA after graduating high school, he plans to major in business and finance. After college, he plans on pursuing a career in finance with the goal of becoming either a car CEO or a portfolio manager. He enjoys playing basketball, and his favorite NBA team is the Los Angeles Clippers. Hostetler enjoys watching the Clippers play and plans to attend one of their games soon to see his favorite player, Kawhi Leonard.
