The class of 2024 kicks off the school year

Seniors gathered on the softball field to spend time with fellow classmates at senior kickoff.

On Tuesday, Sept. 19, the class of 2024 participated in their first event, Senior Kickoff.

Seniors were excused from their fifth and sixth period classes and given the opportunity to spend time with their classmates on the softball field.

Before entering the event, all students attending had to fill out an Educare form which had to be signed prior to the event.

Senior Maylene Zamora shared that she felt the process to enter the event was very chaotic and led to a huge crowd outside the entrance.

“It was really hard to get in because the lines were so long,” Zamora said. “I just feel like this year everything was so disorganized and last minute.”

The kickoff was hosted by Senior Board and the event was set up with the help of eleventh grade volunteers.

“We had to rearrange a lot of things, but we are all really happy with how it turned out in the end,” junior volunteer Anait Atkozyan said.

Some of the activities available included outdoor games, such as Giant Jenga, card games and a performance by the school’s Dance Company.

“Senior Kickoff was an overall exciting day,” senior Kyrillos Mina said.

ASB Vice President Karen Grewal expressed that she felt the event on a whole was a success, despite the few hiccups they faced throughout the day.

“Although there were a few problems, I think Senior Kickoff went really well and was a great way to start off the class of 2024,” Grewal said.

I never thought that one day I would sit and write news stories all the time. When I was little the only thing I liked to write about was fairytales and popstars. Now that I am older the focus of my stories have shifted. As a staff writer for The Mirror, I write stories that focus on real people and what they have to say.  I have written multiple stories for the paper and I continue to search for new stories wherever I go. Outside of journalism, I am the captain for Van Nuys’ cross Country team and am constantly looking for new ways to make people smile.
