Joselyn Giron, #4, uses her guarding skills to not let the San Fernando player get past her.

At the end of the basketball season, the girls basketball team had to say goodbye to their JV and varsity coach, Steve Eshlemen. For a while, the girls couldn’t practice and were nervous that they wouldn’t have a new coach by the beginning of the 2023-2024 season.

Numerous coaches came and went, but finally a new one settled in and decided to become the new girls basketball coach. Van Nuys is welcoming their new head coach, Sara Marroquin.

Coach Marroquin is coming into Van Nuys with a determined attitude to put together a team by immediately starting practice for the upcoming basketball season.

She will be holding tryouts on May 17 and 18 in the big gym at 3:45 pm. Come and show your amazing skills to a new coach and possibly become a member of the Van Nuys girls basketball team!

Isabel Valles, Athletics Editor
Through participating in multiple sports writing competitions, I was able to prove my commitment to the class and was chosen to become sports editor in my second year of journalism. My love for sports writing came around the time my love for sports developed around 6 years ago. Another thing I love about writing about sports is being able to inform and catch up readers about games that they may have missed. Currently I play three sports, flag football, track and field, and basketball. After high school I plan on attending either the University of Pennsylvania or the University of Santa Cruz. My goal for this year as editor is to become a better leader and learn from any mistakes that I might make in the process.
