Happy 2 year anniversary to the most loving and guiding album, “thank u, next”

Released on Feb. 2019, it has been two years since Ariana Grande released her album, “thank u, next.” Consisting of 12 songs, the album was created within a week. “Thank u, next” has now spent two years on the Billboard 200.

In appreciation of Grande’s exes, she mentions four recent lovers in the song “thank u.” Including rapper Big Sean, ex-fiance and comedian Pete Davidson, backup dancer Ricky Alverez, and the beloved singer Mac Miller, Grande thanks each of her exes for teaching her lessons about love, patience and pain throughout those relationships.

Rather than shining a negative light on these break-up songs, she embraces letting go of past relationships that no longer serve her. She not only thanks to her exes but also thanks herself for dealing with it all. Grande tells the story of finally coming to terms with loving herself and growing from the pain she had endured.

“Thank u, next,” expresses her journey of self-love and growth, from her having a “fake smile” or being “needy.” In “in my head”, Grande shares her experience of falling in love with a non-existent version of someone. She imagines a perfect life with Mac Miller, her ex-boyfriend who passed away in Sept. 2018 through “imagine.”

Continuing her album’s story of her growth, Grande touches upon her success as an artist in “7 rings.” Based on true events, she sings about spoiling her friends with her wealth. While having a rough day Grande entered Tiffany & Co. drunk which led her to buy seven rings for herself and her friends. She had bought two more for her mother and grandmother after the song was published.

This album is for people who are going through tough times, heartbreaks, and finally loving themselves.
