Apple revealed the design and features of the new generation of iPhones at its “By Innovation Only” iPhone 11 event on Tuesday.
The most apparent changes to the new iPhones are the cameras.
The new phones will allow users to take ‘slofies,’ or slow motion selfies, as well as improve smart HDR for cameras intended to capture images with better colors, shadows and lights.
Cameras will also be upgraded with a night mode feature that allows clearer pictures in low light.
There are three versions of the iPhone 11: the iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
The iPhone 11 contains a double 12-megapixel camera, similar to the dual-camera system of the previous iPhones.
The new camera will include an ultra-wide angle camera capturing a 120 degree field of view outside of the phone’s frame.
It will come in six colors—white, black, green, yellow, purple and red.
Apple also unveiled two more phones in their line-up: the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
While both the Pro and the Pro Max have the same features, their only difference is their size. The Pro model features a 5.8-inch display while the Pro Max features a 6.5-inch display.
They are both equipped with an additional camera. The triple-camera system will consist of one ultra-wide angle 12-megapixel camera, one standard wide 12-megapixel one and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera. The new telephoto camera will provide two times the optimal zoom and stabilization of an iPhone XS.
The iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max come in four colors—black, white, gold and midnight green.
The new iPhones will run on iOS 13, the 13th generation of the iPhone operating systems, and Apple-designed A13 Bionic chip.
iOS 13 will provide, among other features, iPhone users with a “dark mode” setting and updates to apps like Maps, Photos, and Reminders. Apple also claims that this update increases the speed of unlocking the phone and launching apps. This update will also be available to iPhone 6S and up starting next Thursday, Sept. 19
The A13 Bionic chip will give users hours of extra battery life and up to 20% faster performance compared to its predecessors. Apple boasts that this chip is the fastest out of the ones from any smartphone or tablet.
Additionally, the Apple logo on the back of the iPhone is moved down to the center from its original upper position.
The new iPhones will be released Friday, September 20, and are available for pre-order on Friday, September 13 at 5:00 A.M. Pacific Time.
The iPhone 11 will cost from $699, the iPhone 11 Pro will cost from $999 and the iPhone 11 Pro Max will cost from $1099. Old phones are also applicable for trade-in for a value up to $600 with the latest iPhone XS Max.
