Van Nuys High School participated in the Drama Teachers Association of Southern California (DTASC), competition on Oct. 22 at Canyon High School in Santa Clarita, advancing as far as the semifinals.

“DTASC is a really fun and competitive event where you get to showcase and view performances that are very entertaining if done well,” said sophomore Wellington Upstill, who participated in the large group comedy.

The competition was open to Actors in Action and interested students.

Students were given small scenes to memorize then perform without any props, in front of two judges.

VNHS competed in four groups: Student Original, which was written by senior Sarah Preimesberger, Small Group Drama, Large Group Comedy and Monologues.

Competing against 54 schools, VNHS managed to make it to the semifinals with Student Original, Small Group Drama and Large Group Comedy.
