The Varsity Football Team looked to bounce back after their opening league loss to Sylmar High, as they battled against the Kennedy Cougars on Friday, Sept. 21, but it just wasn’t meant to be as they lost by 19 points.

The Wolves started the game off slow on both sides of the ball, allowing five first-half touchdowns and fumbling the ball twice. Clemente Escobedo got the Wolves on the board with a rushing touchdown making it 35-6 by the end of the first half.

Things never looked up, even though the defense tightened up the second half. The Wolves held the Cougars to only two touchdowns for the rest of the game.

The defensive highlight of the night for the Wolves was an interception by Julian Hessletine in the third quarter.

The Wolves offensive pace picked up after. Escobedo and Nicholas Bowler both found the end zone for rushing touchdowns.

Despite the late runs, the Wolves were unable to overcome the deficit and fell to the Cougars for their second league loss of the season.

“We have a chance to learn a lot from this game. We’re going to look to improve greatly during this bye week,” ”

— Andy Choto

Final Score: 49-20

NEXT GAME: Van Nuys vs Panorama (Homecoming Game) on Friday Oct.5 at 7:15 pm.
