Varsity Soars Past San Fernando

September 12, 2017

SPORTS: Girl’s Volleyball : Varsity shines in 3-1 victory; JV falls short in 2-1 loss

In their first away league game of the season, the Van Nuys Varsity Girls outlasted the San Fernando Tigers in a four set match, while the JV Girls fell short in their game.

The JV team started off the game sluggish, as they had constant miscommunications on their serve receive, but they pulled away with a 26-24 win in the first set. As the second set progressed, continued issues with the serve receive made them lose 25-19. Heading into the final set, the JV girls were unable to fix their mistakes and lost 15-9.

In the first set, the Varsity girls quickly established their offense and swung many kills as they grabbed a 25-22 win. During the second set, the serves from San Fernando troubled the Wolves’ serve receives and Van Nuys lost 25-15. The Wolves corrected their serve receives and digs in the third set and won 25-22. Building off of their offense from the third set, outside hitters Captain Soana Manu #12 and Kiara Gebert #10 capped off the 25-17 win with their hits.

Final Score : 25-22, 15-25, 25-22, 25-1
