I sat down with her for five minutes to explore her life and what she has done with her love for reading.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
Most people don’t know that I actually published a childrens’ book named “Almost a Witch.” I published it a couple years ago and I’m working on the sequel.
How do you balance your personal and work lives?
I think I do okay with that. I love what I do so I think my professional life kind of bleeds into my personal life. In my personal time I like doing my professional job.
What is a cause you’re passionate about?
A cause I’m passionate about is getting kids to think and speak critically. Kids should have conversations and share opinions. I want them to go out and ask questions. I am very passionate about helping kids develop curiosity.
What is the most memorable travel experience you’ve had?
A few summers ago I went to Paris. It was just for fun and I went with a friend of mine. We went with a tour and they had blocked out rooms in our hotel. We stayed for about two weeks.
What is an interesting job you’ve had outside of education?
My very first job was being an arts and crafts director at a sports camp. It was a lot of fun and I was in high school at the time.
What is a life lesson you’ve learned outside of the classroom that you can share?
Your experience with people is rarely about you. It’s more about the other person and their history or motivation, so try not to take it personally. When you talk with someone, you have to acknowledge it is about them, always. You never fully understand the person or people in their entirety.
If you could have dinner with anyone living or dead other than family members, who would it be?
One of my role models is Helen Keller because I think she’s amazing. I want to understand how she maintained her courage. Anne Sullivan would have to come with us because I wouldn’t be able to talk to her.
