On Thursday Nov. 14 at 4:30 p.m The WolfPack Theatre Company held their second black box show of the year, a Musical Miscast showcase.
Miscast is the genre of performance where performers pick songs they wouldn’t normally sing, including women singing mens songs, or young artists singing songs meant for older people.
The show was held in the black box theatre, room 303 for $5. Songs ranged from musicals like “Chicago” to
Disney’s “Princess and the Frog”.
Sophomores Ameilia Probst and Ellie Steinberg sang a song “Throwing in the Towel” from the musical adaptation of “The Outsiders”.
“I thought the concept for this show was really cool, I’ve been watching miscast performances for years and I loved being able to participate in our own version,” Probst said.
Probst talked about a lack of pressure found during smaller shows held in the BlackBox.
“Since the shows are only one night and have limited space, I have more fun performing than I do normally,” she said. “It’s less stressful.”
Junior Lucy Tait sang “Almost There” from “Princess and the Frog”, a song that isn’t the personality she is
usually pinned for on stage.
“This show was such a good opportunity to sing one of my favorite songs with some of my favorite people,” Tait said.
The show allowed people to perform in a different way than normal, and it challenged the performers to think differently than they would with the songs they’re usually pinned to sing.
With this one night only show done, it’s another performance in the basket for the WolfPack Theatre Company and one day closer to the start of “Mamma Mia!”
