On Tuesday, Oct. 17, lead guitarist for the rock band Rage Against the Machine Tom Morello visited the school, giving a lively performance for students and staff in the auditorium.
Select students were summoned out of 2nd and 3rd period to watch the performance.
The performance was the result of a collaboration between Morello and Music Will, a charity dedicated to helping public schools provide music education across the country.
Music Will donated electric guitar equipment to music teacher Ms. Jennifer Bellusci’s guitar class.
“I’m so grateful,” Ms. Bellusci said. “The timing was perfect because we just started an after school rock band. The way I did it, I brought my kids’ equipment to school, which I feel a little weird about because I don’t want their stuff to get broken. When this opportunity came up, I was like, ‘yes, thank you,’ because it was perfect timing.”
Onstage, Morello played both his acoustic and electric guitar. The audience went wild when the famed guitarist played his electric guitar with his teeth. Later, the students were invited onstage and joined Morello to sing “This Land is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie.
“It was a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Ms. Bellusci said.
