Imagine being only a teenager and having to watch your mom suffer from a life threatening disease.
Julian Rios Cantu from Mexico, was just thirteen years old when his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.
He watched in terror as her tumor grew from pea size to the size of a ping pong ball within a span of months.
She eventually became cancer free after losing her breasts, but this inspired Cantu to create an invention of his own.
Julian Rios Cantu invented a bra that can detect breast cancer after his mom had both of her breasts removed.
Cantu, along with three other friends, founded Higia Technologies a five years later.
The team developed a prototype of a wearable device the same year, called the EVA bra, which can detect early signs of breast cancer. The device contains sensors that can be attached to normal bras.

It only needs to be worn for about an hour a week in order to catch early signs of the disease.
The device works by sensing changes in skin temperature and elasticity which are two of the more common signs of breast cancer other than lumps.
After every use, data is sent to an app and algorithms calculate a person’s risk of breast cancer.
The device has already raised $20,000 but will need much more in order to continue growing and improving.
The EVA bra has the potential to save millions of lives.
