Varsity Girl’s Soccer Takes on Rival Tigers
The Van Nuys Girl’s Varsity Soccer Team tied 2-2 against rival school San Fernando on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
The Lady Wolves started out strong with a 1-0 lead in favor of Van Nuys in the first half, scored by Captain Gisell Cruz.
However, starting in the second half, San Fernando scored and tied the game at 1-1.
After a few very rough minutes in the second half with the ball in no particular team’s possession, Cruz scored a second goal with an assist from Captain Melissa Rico, giving Van Nuys a 2-1 lead.
The Lady Wolves held their lead for the remaining minutes until a last minute goal by the Tigers, ending the final mark at 2-2.
“The girls played their hearts out and I am proud of them. Although we tied, we played a heck of a game. Soccer is like gambling, you don’t know if you will win or lose,” said Captain Melissa Rico.
With this tie, Van Nuys goes on with a 4-3-2 league record.
