On Par to Girl’s Golf City Finals
FOOTBALL: Team beats North Hollywood and Verdugo Hills in League finals to advance to City Championship
It’s on to the City Championship for the Van Nuys Girl Golf team.
On Wednesday, October 25, the Lady Wolves played against North Hollywood High School and Verdugo Hills High School in their League Finals at the Balboa Golf Course, defeating both teams on the green at Balboa Golf Course.
Balboa is a Par 72 course; this means that scoring a 72 in the 18 holes means you shot even par — which is a zero over par score.
The top scorer from Van Nuys was Junior May Nuchit, who shot a 95.
“I didn’t feel confident at all,” Nuchit said. “My wrist was hurting each time I tried to hit the ball that day. I tried to enjoy it and not think about it too much. After the round, I ended up getting third place as an individual. I was really happy but now I’m just scared for City Championships next week. Yikes.”
Team Captains Madison Dulkanchainun and Nuchit placed in the league top 10, with Nuchit ranked third and Dulkanchainun ranked fifth. Both received medals for their achievements.
Due to the team’s success during the season and in the League Finals, every player from Van Nuys has qualified for the City Finals, though some have decided not to play due to their lack of experience.
City Finals will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at Balboa Golf Course with more than 10 high schools. There will be a cut now, depending the average of the scores, that determines which players will qualify for the Regional Finals.
The date and location of the Regional Finals are to be determined.
