After dominating in their first home game of the season, the Van Nuys Wolves Varsity Football team kept their positive momentum and seized another lopsided victory against Monroe High School, winning 41-20.
The Varsity team’s performance improved their record to 2-1 for the season. The Junior Varsity team, however, struggled defensively and lost 30-6, falling to 1-1 for the season.
His response was “Individually, people have different goals and mentalities heading into every game, but, as a whole, the team’s mentality is simple – to dominate and give 100% every play,” said Varsity Offensive Lineman, Jonathan De Leon.
“Every game is different, “ De Leon said, explaining how the previous game against Mendez High impacted the team. “We can take our usual plays and see what worked and what needs to be worked on, but each game requires a new game plan.”
Similar to the prior week, the Varsity team remained hot. Using their strong running game, the Wolves scored 21 points in the first quarter, while their defense followed the same trend and left the Monroe Vikings scoreless through the first quarter.

Heading into the second quarter, the Vikings answered back by scoring their first touchdown of the night and a two point conversion. However, the Wolves’ running game continued to dominate, as Quarterback George Garcia scored on the next drive.
The Wolves entered the half leading 27-8 after both teams went scoreless in the third quarter. Van Nuys started the fourth quarter with two scoring drives propelling them to a 41-8 lead with a little over nine minutes left in the game.
The Vikings continued to play hard, moving the ball down the field through their passing game and scoring another two touchdowns, but the Wolves withstood Monroe High final efforts as the game came to an end with another victory for Van Nuys.
The Wolves head back on the road on Sept. 23 against the 3-1 Canoga Park Hunters, the third-ranked team in the division.
