A man is dead on the street. Federal agents are killing on camera with no reprisal. The government is lying to you. They ask you to deny the facts before your very eyes. They are killing America, they are killing us and they are killing you.
On Jan. 24, 2026, Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen and ICU nurse working for the Veterans Association(VA), a federal agency in charge of taking care of our veterans, was brutally killed. His murderers were the Immigration Control Enforcement (ICE), the federal power in charge of deporting illegal immigrants, during their operation in Minneapolis. His crime was nothing but protesting with a camera in his hand.
Despite the claims of Kristi Noem and others in the Trump administration, Alex Pretti was not a domestic terrorist. His constitutional right of carrying a firearm had nothing to do with his death. The very suggestion of that is not only laughable but an insult to the intelligence of the American people.
For so long, those on the right have defended the Second Amendment amid numerous mass shootings. They would not blame guns for the death of a five-year-old, for Sandy Hook, for Columbine or for hundreds of other victims. But the second the gun wasn’t on an extremist or a man who agreed with them, they abandoned the Second Amendment.
The killings and lies make me sick. The fact that the Trump administration wants ICE officials to have blanket immunity is insanity. It’s time to wake up. This is just facism under a different mask, and our Congress passively enables this threat to democracy.
Our Senate no longer speaks for us, and the House deserted its people. Their words do not translate to action. They promised to keep the government closed until Americans got the health care they desperately need. Instead, the government resumed and nothing changed.
The Senate is a coward, and our representatives are traitors of democracy. The states who are complicit are also complicit in murder. Those who support ICE, who say they’re just doing their job, are no better than the murderers who gunned down Alex Pretti in cold blood.
And it’s not just Alex Pretti. In the same month he was killed, a poor woman named Renee Good was murdered without consequence after ICE agents attempted to break into her car, calling her derogatory names. Again the government lied and blamed Good, their deeds going unpunished once again.
There’s a clear pattern in these shootings: when the government goes unchecked, the people suffer. Men, women and children like you and me are rounded up by masked men from their homes, schools and workplaces to a detention center away from loved ones. More then 280 immigrants, many of whom do not have criminal records, have been deported to El Salvador’s Center for terrorism confinement (CECOT) where they face torture, life sentences and sexual assault.
The only reason behind these attacks lies in the color of their skin. Even the Supreme Court acknowledged the fact that ICE is racially profiling those who they detain and gave them a free pass to do so. Here’s another government institution failing their people.
These people came to America with a dream. They wanted a better life for themselves and for their families. And that dream has become a nightmare.
Pretti may not be the first, but he should be the last. We cannot be passive as the president orders the murder of his citizens. This is not just a political
issue, but a human rights issue. This is the time to stand up, to protest and to fight back for the freedom and democracy so many in America died to protect.
Immigrants pose no danger; they aren’t the murderers and rapists the Trump administration claims them to be. They are people. They are humans. In all aspects of life, they are AMERICANS.
