Dodgers edge toward League Championship after Wild Card success

Team celebrates National League West championship after 12th title in 13 seasons

After a long 162 game season, the Los Angeles Dodgers have reached the post season as the National League West (NLS) Champions for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.

With 93 wins and 69 losses, the team celebrated their title on Sept. 25, 2025.

After winning the World Series last season against the Yankees, Dodger fans have been anticipating their post-season appearance all season long. Their first appearance was the Wild Card round against the Cincinnati Reds, only lasting two games.

The Reds season record was only 83-79, marking confidence amongst Dodger fans.

In an attempt to provide teams who did not perform well throughout the season with a chance to make it to the playoffs, the Wild Card round is a best of three matchup. Three division winners in each league are pitted against three non-division winning teams with the best overall record, providing the Reds a chance at redemption.

This didn’t amount to much, though, as their postseason appearance was quickly cut short.

On Tuesday, Sept. 30, the Dodgers faced the Reds at Dodger Stadium for their postseason game against each other.

Though the game ultimately with the Dodgers winning 10-5, the road to victory was considerably rocky.

Despite leading the entire game without a single home run against them, their struggle to find a proper closer caught up to them. During the seventh and eighth inning, the Reds made five home runs, instilling fear in the crowd and dugout.

But this wasn’t enough to win the game.

The following game, on Oct. 1, the Dodgers won 8-4, marking the end of the Wild Card round and advancing to the playoffs against the Philadelphia Phillies.

With their first game starting two games starting in Pittsburgh, the Dodgers managed to clutch back to back wins, before returning to their home stadium on Oct. 8.

With this series being a best of five match, they only need one more win to advance to the League Championship Series (LCS).

With each match, the Dodgers edge closer towards winning the World Series once again.

“Although the Reds are one of my favorite teams in the MLB, it was clear that the Dodgers would have the upper hand,” junior Nia Tachin said. “They have a mostly well rounded team, with a strong pitcher, a great infield and a good lineup, compared to the Reds who in my opinion, only have pitching as their main asset.”
