Mr. Kenneth Weber, a member of the Social Science Department and advisor to the Associated Student Body (ASB), plays a pivotal role in both the academic and extracurricular life of our campus.
Through his dedication to teaching and student leadership, he fosters a strong sense of community and school spirit. His work with ASB appears to have helped organize meaningful events and initiatives that enhance the overall student experience.
Mr. Weber has been working at Van Nuys High School for four years now, and describes his experience to be overall positive.
“I’ve had a very positive experience at Van Nuys,” he said. “I have loved the classes I’ve taught and I have really enjoyed working with the students, and I mean that wholeheartedly. I really have a great relationship and a great experience with the students at Van Nuys that has made the experience here the best I could ever ask for.”
This year, Mr. Weber is teaching new history classes. Currently, he teaches AP Macroeconomics, Economics/U.S. Government and U.S. History.
He describes everyday at Van Nuys to be consistently different from the other, which is one of his favorite things about this job.
“One thing I love about teaching is that everyday is a different day,” Weber said. “It’s never a repeat. I never have the same day over and over again.”
Not only this, but the subjects he teaches along with his students make his job even more enjoyable.
“I love history itself, I love sharing history, I think history is very important for young people to understand so they can make informed decisions in the future, and that’s why I love teaching,” he said. “I love just coming to hang out! I don’t think teaching needs to be a strict ‘I talk, you listen’ thing. I think it’s more about corroboration and working together to come to an understanding of what happens in the world.”
While Mr. Weber teaches multiple history subjects, he is also the advisor for the Associated Student Body (ASB).
He shared that although this position can be stressful at times, he enjoys every second of it.
“ASB is a very stressful position, but I love it,” he said. “I really, honestly love it. I love working with the students, they have such great ideas. When I took over, there was a lack of school spirit, and in the time since I’ve taken over ASB, I’ve watched the students grow and change the philosophy of the school into being a more community centered program and school where we focus on Van Nuys and the wolfpack and I could not be any more proud of them, and because of that I love doing ASB.”
Mr. Weber claims to have shown his dedication to ASB and says he will definitely be with them for a while, showing his support for this group of students.
“I see myself doing it for quite a bit and it’s because I believe in what the students are doing,” he said. “They believe in what I’m doing, and it’s going to be a great time here at Van Nuys because of that.”
By the looks of it, Mr. Weber has shown his passion not only in working with ASB, but with his teaching in general. As said by him he shows appreciation for his students and our school shows everyday, trying to help improve our campus one day at a time.
