Social studies teacher Mr. Jacob Ferrin has been a teacher at our school for 10 years now. This year, Mr. Ferrin is taking on courses that he is used to teaching like U.S. History and AP U.S. History but he’s also taking on a new course as well called American History of Rock and Roll.

Besides teaching, Mr. Ferrin contributes to the school community as he is currently the advisor for the Student Task Force. Mr. Ferrin is also known around the school for his dad jokes which he rolls out relentlessly during class.

I sat down with him for 5 minutes to get to know him beyond his position as a teacher and the school’s jokester.

Do you have any children?

I have one child, her name is Juniper.

Do you have any pets?

No pets.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I never went to kindergarten.

How do you balance your personal and work life?

I don’t.

What’s a cause or issue that you’re passionate about?

I am passionate about education reform and the support of public education.

What’s the most memorable travel experience you’ve had?

I jumped into the ocean in Malaga, Spain and I bruised my toe. This was after basically spraining my ankle three days prior. Immediately after I jumped I was like, ‘oh, at least my ankle’s fine.’

What’s an interesting job you’ve had outside of education?

I was a Community Service officer. Basically a campus security guard. I was the person who did safety walks where if someone felt unsafe, I would go and I would walk them from place to place. And other kinds of important security things were part of the job too but I spent most of my time reading a lot of books on that job.
