Tech week, commonly referred to as hell week, is the time when the show gets better but the days get longer.
Tech week is the week of lighting and adding sounds to the show.
Although the story comes together, tech week is a lot of waiting for the tech crew to work their magic. The rehearsals went from an end time of 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., meaning the cast and crew were
on campus for 70 hours in a single week.
“The days and rehearsals felt super long, but it’s starting to click that the show is soon,” commented Senior Dj Martinez, who plays the role of Mrs. Montague. “Last year we had a little more time before the show opened. Because this show fits more into the spookiness of Halloween, Mr.Baldridge wanted us to open sooner, which definitely added more stress.”
The crunch of getting everything done for performances hit the production hard during Saturday’s rehearsal.
With the focus of the actors and crew being away from the task at hand, which was lighting and running the scenes with pre-existing lights, tech couldn’t be completed in time.
After taking a group vote to not extend rehearsal an hour, with students wanting to get ready for the Homecoming Dance, the cast and crew knew the longer hours were not over yet, with lighting eventually being finished a day before assembly performances.
Although the hours were long, the immersion and hard work has finally come together to get the story they’ve all been waiting for.
“I’m excited for people to come and see what we’ve been working on for the past two months,” said Junior Chris Ruiz, playing the role of Luke Sanderson.
Those two months have now boiled down into one week, and with stress comes excitement.
“Despite the stress of the show opening soon, I’m very excited for the opportunity to perform,” Martinez said. “Plus I’m excited to get a nap once it’s all over.”
If you want to see the show then please join the cast and crew on Oct.24 at 4:30pm., 25 at 7:00pm., 26 at 6:00pm. and the 27th at 3pm.!
