The atmosphere at the school pep rally this Friday, Oct. 18, was electric. Students gathered for a spirited pep rally, finishing off an eventful Spirit Week-themed “Survivor Island.” Classes competed fiercely throughout the week, with each grade level being eliminated individually in a fun twist on the school’s traditional spirit competition.
The pep rally kicked off at the end of third period, as students proudly donned their
class colors, showcasing their enthusiasm and friendship. The dance team, cheer squad and band took center stage, dazzling the audience with lively performances that energized their classmates.
Kicking off the first event, ASB gathered one student from each grade and a teacher to face off in a hands-free pie eating contest. Staff and students alike watched hesitantly to see who would ultimately finish first, with the winner being physical education teacher Mr. Min Woo So.
Following this, cheers echoed through the football field, rallying support for various sports teams, including the girls’ tennis team, flag football team, girls’ volleyball team and football squad, who were also honored during the event.
This was followed by a two-person per grade competition where students selected had to work together to make it to the end of the field before other duos.
Before reaching the pinnacle of the event, students and teachers would volunteer to participate in a relay race.
Amidst cheers and laughter, the highlight of the day was the announcement of the Spirit Week winner. The anticipation built as ASB members took the microphone.
After an intense week of competition between classes, the seniors were declared the champions, prompting a wave of applause and celebration from the student body.
Transitioning into lunchtime, the festive atmosphere continued. Students gathered with friends, sharing stories of their favorite moments from the week, and enjoying the remaining time to celebrate together.
This year’s Survivor Island-themed Spirit Week not only fostered a friendly competition between classes but also unity among students, culminating in a pep rally that will be remembered fondly. As the seniors held their pride high, it was clear that the true winners were the connections made and the memories created throughout the week.
The school’s football team kept the Van Nuys pride up by winning the game last night against Canoga Parks so don’t forget to continue the fun at tonight’s Homecoming dance.
