Keeping it ‘Short N’ Sweet’: Sabrina Carpenter’s tour

Sabrina Carpenter, originally a child star on the Disney show “Girl Meets World” has now made her way onto every teenage girl’s screen, immersing them into a world of pop and country.

Carpenter kicked off her first arena tour on Sept. 23 in Columbus, Ohio at Nationwide Arena only a month after releasing her new album, “Short N’ Sweet” on Aug. 23, 2024.

The setlist of the tour includes 21 songs from her new album, “Short N’ Sweet,” accompanied by songs from her past album, “emails i can’t send.”

During her shows, Carpenter spins a bottle every night to pick one out of four ‘surprise’ songs. The random songs are “Mamma Mia” by ABBA, “That Don’t Impress Me Much” by Shania Twain, “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None The Richer — and a bonus track from herself — “Busy Woman” by Sabrina Carpenter.

Her concerts have brought attention to her unique yet feminine fashion sense and for many of Carpenter’s tours, as well as red carpet walks, her fans are always  left wondering what she is wearing.

In this tour, Carpenter dazzles the stage every show with custom outfits from designers like; Victoria Secret with her iconic pastel bodysuits, Patou with the lace jumpsuits and Ludovic de Saint Sernin with the sparkly two-piece sets; many of them ranging in color but keeping the same style.

Her iconic doll-like legs are done by the job of custom “Phantasy” tights. She has a couple of different pairs of the tights embroidered with lyrics from various songs of her own like the lyrics from her song “Espresso” saying “I’m working late.”

Something different about this tour is that Carpenter has stopped doing her “Nonsense” outros. For her “emails i can’t send” tour,  she would come up with a different outro for the song “Nonsense” which made each night unique. For this tour, she acts as if her microphone has gone out and can’t say her desired outro.

Carpenter is also very active with her audience. For example, before starting her song “Juno,” she talks to an audience member and arrests them for being “too hot.”  She’s done this in the past for her “emails i can’t send” tour, where she would talk to an audience member about a situation they’re going through and then play them a song to help them feel better. Carpenter loves to make her crowd work! And a lot of work was definitely put into the setting of her tours.

Carpenter has a two story set including two rooms for specific songs, and a runway down to a heart shaped platform that raises. And of course, an expensive set comes with an expensive price to see it. Tickets are reaching up to $500 as most shows are being sold out.

Carpenter’s “Short N’ Sweet” tour will go from Ohio, USA in Sept. 2024 all the way to Milan, Italy in March 2025. Various cities in between include New York, New York, Los Angeles, California and Glasgow, UK.

As Carpenter’s popularity grows, more and more people continue to come to her shows just to get a “Taste” of her new music.

Melissa Ocegueda, Staff Writer
Melissa Ocegueda, a junior, is a new staff writer for the Arts and Entertainment section. Her hobbies range from doing her own nails to baking. She is passionate about theater, specifically technical theater in light design. Ocegueda's obsession is the musical “Hamilton,” probably her favorite musical ever. She dreams to study in New York, hoping to one day be a writer and maybe even a director. It’s quite a contradiction for her as she doesn't like to read but hopes to be a great writer. Her favorite movie is “Marriage Story” because she loves how the story depicts a simple separation turned to a warring divorce because of society. One of Ocegueda’s favorite songs is “Wildflower” by Billie Ellish. She wishes she could donate to DACA and The Trevor Project.
