About the contributors
Ivan Alcala, Staff
I didn’t have a name for a month after I was born, my name is Ivan Alcala. I’m new to journalism. I enjoy telling people my opinions, even when they don’t ask. I also enjoy filmmaking and camerawork; capturing a moment in time on a C100 or Black Magic 6k camera that tells a wider story feels fulfilling. When I’m not doing filmmaking, my main interests include model building, a hobby that toes the line between technical and artistic skill, and reading, a hobby that allows me to be transported into the minds and ideas of other talented people. Words and actions are a musical scale and it is my job to turn that into a melody.

I have always been a creative person, my love for art started when I was a baby drawing on my bedroom walls. My creative hobbies have upgraded from wall drawings to oil paintings, jewelry making, sewing, and most importantly, photography. I aspire to be a photographer when I'm older, just like my dad. He sparked my interest in photography and has supported me through my journey. On my weekends I work as a barista at a coffee shop, and I do local craft fairs to sell my art. Although I’m sad this is my last year of high school and my last year working with the Mirror, I can't wait to start college and advance my creative skills.

Since I was a kid my family has always known me to be a sort of wildcard when it comes to doing anything at all. I have changed hobbies throughout my life more times than I can count and my passions have changed numerous times. However my attitude and work ethic has remained the same through it all. At the moment I am interested in producing any sort of media as I look forward to holding a position in the entertainment industry. I am currently employed at Trader Joe’s and have found it to help my social skills and abilities drastically, building my confidence inside, as well as outside of work. In my spare time, which is hard to come by, I enjoy watching movies and dissecting the individual shots and their composition, trying to find the true meaning behind the director's motive. This helps me to expand my creative freedom and draw inspiration from other creators whilst trying to push the boundaries of what was thought to be impossible to capture on a film camera.
