The bottom line | On Friday, Jan. 26, the boys basketball team faced off against the Reseda Regents, who they previously lost to by a large margin of 25 the last time they faced off. However, this game had a different result, as the Wolves pulled through the tough game and ended up winning with a score of 57-54.
Highlights |
- In the first half, the team ended up at 32-22 due to its strong communication on defense and impressive shooting skills.
- In the second half, the Regents offense started to pick up, minimizing the Wolves’s lead to just three points in the final minutes of the game.
- In the final seconds, the Wolves were able to stop the Regents from getting the last shot up, taking the win at the end with a score of 57-54.
- Jeremy Rivas (#1) and Christopher Gomez (#10) were a huge threat from the three point line, scoring six threes combined.
- Jonco Holgado (#2) helped the Wolves on offense, getting many assists, tough layups and even and-ones.
- Cliff Magee (#22) did an amazing job on preventing the Regent’s main scorer from making shots, while Earl Gervacio (#30) got multiple steals and a charge, both of which ended up being huge contributions to defense.
- Jonathan Pritchett (#11) and O’shan Williams (#25) had multiple defensive and offensive rebounds throughout the game, which ultimately gave the team more possessions to score.
What’s Next | After a win against Reseda, the team will go against Panorama High on Wednesday, Jan. 31, as an away. Their senior night will take place the following game on Friday, Feb. 2.
Team thoughts | “I think everyone played their parts well in this game which is why we came out on top,” Earl Gervacio said. “Although we were nailing some shots on offense, our defense is what caused our lead to decrease slowly by slowly. However, in the end we pulled through and ended up taking the win.”
Our Thoughts | This game was a really entertaining and exciting one to watch. The Wolves showed how strong their offense can truly be, despite some miscommunication on defense. With some fixes to their flaws, they will have a higher chance of making the playoffs and potentially bring their seniors a championship.
