Love is in the air at Van Nuys

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Van Nuys High School hosted its first ever Hearts Day Festival. During lunch, students gathered around the quad and listened to the enthralling music as they enjoyed the many activities available.

Clubs were set up throughout the quad and selling a variety of Valentine’s Day inspired gifts, accessories and souvenirs. From fake flowers to jewelry to heart balloons and teddy bears. The price range was $1 to $10, depending on the item.

Free face painting and a photo booth were also available.

The event had been in the works for a while, and a great amount of work went into making Heart’s Day Festival possible.

Senior Raina Marangattu, a member of ASB, says that the event would not have been the same without the Student Services committee.

“Student Services committee especially, the commissioner, Karen Grewal put a lot of thought and effort into making it into the event it was!”

Student Services as well as other members of ASB helped to decorate the quad with streamers and balloons all in festive Valentine colors. Clubs set up their own tables and all of these elements helped to bring the event to life.

Overall Marangattu says that the Heart’s Day Festival was a great success.

“A lot of clubs were able to sell out of all their products…Heart’s Day festival helped to bring greater awareness to the plethora of clubs our campus offers.”

I never thought that one day I would sit and write news stories all the time. When I was little the only thing I liked to write about was fairytales and popstars. Now that I am older the focus of my stories have shifted. As a staff writer for The Mirror, I write stories that focus on real people and what they have to say.  I have written multiple stories for the paper and I continue to search for new stories wherever I go. Outside of journalism, I am the captain for Van Nuys’ cross Country team and am constantly looking for new ways to make people smile.
