The Class of 1957 made a one-time scholarship donation to six graduates of the class of 2021 of $1,000 each.
The checks were presented to students by the donors on Friday, July 30 in the Magnet Office with college counselor Ms. Mary Charlton and magnet coordinator Ms. Dawn Brown also in attendance.
1957 Alumni Eva Saridakis reached out to Ms. Charlton at the end of the school year for the donation.
Ms. Saridakis has worked closely with the former VNHS Alumni Organization that no longer exists due to the death of the organization’s leader and former VNHS teacher Terry Stoller eight years ago.
She was joined by Gary Kock, Linda Glenn and Becky Hoppe to present the checks to Brianna Baker, Sodjine Bate, Gasia Excel, Michelle Lopez, Bryan Merida and Warin Reiwtavee.
The recipients of the scholarship were chosen based on need, citizenship and academic standing by Ms. Charlton.
The scholarship money will go toward students’ tuition, textbooks or other college expenses.
The Class of 1957 wishes to inspire other graduating classes to continue to follow their lead in giving back to the school community.
“It’s just an honor, I’m very grateful,” scholarship recipient Warin Reiwtavee said.
