BOYS BASKETBALL: The Wolves advances to the quarterfinals from a strong game against Southwest High School.

The Boys Basketball Team visited Duarte High School on Saturday, Mar.10.

The Wolves started off the game with a high intensity on both ends of the floor. Their offense begun to flow as multiple shots by Tyree Winborn gave them a 19-11 lead by the end of the first quarter. However, the momentum shifted in the second quarter as the Falcons rallied back. The Falcons began to find their touch offensively, as they knocked down a series of baskets. Van Nuys trailed as they enter the second half. However, the Wolves responded in the third quarter, due to the superb play of Winborn, Ethan Quiambao, and Matthew Sykes. For Quiambao he had an all around performance as he contributed to the team’s scoring, rebounding, and assists. Sykes had a monster game in the paint as he grabbed a total of 17 rebounds alongside his 14 points. The Van Nuys Wolves pulled away in the final quarter as Winborn began heating up. A late run by the Wolves sealed their victory and a spot in the quarterfinals.

Final Score: 74-62

Stats: Tyree Winborn: 45 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal.
Matthew Sykes: 14 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists.
Ethan Quiambao: 5 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals.

NEXT GAME: Van Nuys vs Southwest San Diego on Tuesday, Mar.13 at 7:00 pm.
