The official final trailer for A24’s upcoming sci-fi horror film “Backrooms” was released on May 13, 2026, before its theatrical release on May 29, 2026. It’s directed by a viral 20-year-old Youtube creator Kane Parsons known as Kane Pixels. The film follows a therapist who must venture into a dimension beyond reality after her patient disappears.

The idea of “Backrooms” came from a user on 4chan asking people to share “cursed” or “disquieting images that just feel ‘off’.” Another anonymous user replied by sharing a slightly tilted photo of an empty, oddly lit room with mono-yellow wallpaper and stained carpet, this was the start of the Backrooms.

The main reason why “Backrooms” is so important is for the fact that the idea came from the internet. It came from normal day to day individuals and not from Hollywood. It shows how internet born lore can grow into a full Hollywood movie, and how far the internet can carry into the real world.

A24 is known for their indie movies, the movies usually have a deeper meaning to them and are more on the depressing side. They still do make fun movies but most of their movies are drama filled. They do make horror movies too but their horror movies are more messing with your head than jump scaring you with gore. All their movies mess with your head in a psychological way. That’s why A24 gets so much praise for their movies. They are one of my favorite studios for sure, I always know their movies are going to give me things to discuss after.

I can’t wait to watch “Backrooms” in theaters on May 29.
