Pop Culture Update: TikTok and CapCut make App Store comeback
On Feb.11 2025, a tweet from Duolingo circulated around the internet that the Duolingo Mascot, Duo, died unexpectedly with the leading theory being that not enough people were doing their lessons.
There is currently a meter that, if filled, if everyone does their lessons, he will allegedly be revived.
Saturday Night Live recently just had their 50th Anniversary and many celebrities that were old cast members of SNL or guests appeared. Many of the iconic old members even did skits with the new cast such as Will Ferrell and Eddie Murphy.
One of the standout performances was of Will Farrel and Ana Gasteyer performing Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” in a more classical style, even adding piano and opera into this award-winning rap.
Another moment in this special was when Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosted a Q & A section where Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively were asked how they were, to which Reynolds responded with “Good! Why? What have you heard?” This is due to them being under fire for a legal battle with Lively’s co-host in “It Ends With Us,” Justin Baldoni.
On Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day, Sabrina Carpenter released her extended version of “Short n’ Sweet,” her recent album, called “Short n’ Sweet (Deluxe).” There were five tracks added to the original tracklist that include: “15 minutes,” “Couldn’t Make it Any Harder,” “Busy Woman,” “Bad Reviews” and “Please Please Please” now featuring Dolly Parton.
Many people were very excited to hear the songs she’s been teasing recently and they weren’t disappointed because on the first day of it being out over 37 million people listened to it.
On Feb. 13, after TikTok was banned from downloading since Jan. 18, it is back on the App Store. With this you can not only get back TikTok but also CapCut, the video editing app, leaving people very happy.
LAUSD's budget leaves the award-winning journalism program at Van Nuys High School with a $0 budget in the upcoming school year. Without YOUR support, The Mirror cannot cover its expenses, hurting students directly and putting something that took years to build at genuine risk of falling behind.
Please consider making a donation to cover other VNHS journalism program expenses this school year
