Pop Culture Replay: Cartoon clips, out of context quotes and memes take over TikTok
This quote is not as controversial as it comes off. A clip from the hit show “Modern Family”, where Lily Tucker-Pritchett, a little Vietnamese girl who was adopted by Mitchell and Cameron, is taken to a Vietnamese restaurant to learn more about her culture. However, Lily would rather eat a cheeseburger than the food offered to her in which she tells the waitress that she hates vietnam…twice. The audio has recently been blowing up as creators manipulate it to go with many other issues than originally posed.
In a similar vein, a clip from the Cartoon Network classic, “The Amazing World of Gumball,” went viral when Darwin Waterson, the fish brother to Gumball Waterson, said “There’s no such thing as evil people, just ordinary people who do bad things!” This clip was edited by @the.real.gumball on Tiktok so that the response that Gumball said, which was “Jump,” was repeated twice, the second time being slower.
This audio went viral as people started to say what Darwin said about any interest they like and putting the exception to that like in Gumball’s response. For example, a creator by the name of @revelation_17_5 or Edogram on Tiktok used to say that “There’s no such thing as ‘Bad Art’ just different ways to express & interpret the human experience!” to which the response was “Thomas Kinkade,” an artist Edogram doesn’t like the style of.
Back in 2021 this meme blew up but it has recently had a resurgence.
The Knuckles Approved meme originated from a 30 second episode in the series “Sonic Boom” titled “Mayor Knuckles” in which Knuckles the Echidna is made mayor for the day and passes or rejects laws, sending the village into chaos.
His approval and disapproval of different things went to Tiktok with creators now approving and disapproving things in their interests, including but not limited to, certain fashion trends, hair colors and foods
This single given to the world by Lady Gaga on Feb. 3 during the Grammys became an instant hit to the world and of course, Tiktok.
Many fans alike have made multiple videos using this song to dance, sing and do many other cool things with it in the background. This song has inspired people to get creative and weird like Lady Gaga has always done. Many have even done the dance break within the song or created their own, completely different choreography.
LAUSD's budget leaves the award-winning journalism program at Van Nuys High School with a $0 budget in the upcoming school year. Without YOUR support, The Mirror cannot cover its expenses, hurting students directly and putting something that took years to build at genuine risk of falling behind.
