The first football game of the year took place on Aug. 27, 2021 at home. Van Nuys High School lost to Taft with an end result of 43 – 6.
The play of the game was a punt return for a touchdown from the wolves midway in the first quarter which tied the game up at the time 6 – 6.
Sadly throughout the game, the defense could not stop the plays which allowed Taft to score on every drive. While the defense couldn’t stop anything the offense wasn’t doing any better. They were unable to get in a smooth rhythm and allowed the quarterback to get pressured on practically every play.
Hopes remain high for the wolfpack to finally get their first win.

What I see from the stands is a lack of unity within the team. This points to the coaches. I have been to 3 games and VN coaches never circle up or join the team in a unifying huddle. I see lots of yelling at the players and shamefully tonight the coach walked away and waved a player away who wanted to talk. To me this is shameful. A team is a team. Pride in each other win or lose. THE COACH IS KEY TO THE SPIRIT OF THE TEAM. IT STARTS AND ENDS THERE. COACHES I hope you read this.
