Coach William Cox, the head coach of Van Nuys High School’s flag football team has been nominated for Coach of the week by the Los Angeles Chargers in collaboration with the National Football League (NFL).

Mr. Cox was nominated alongside 18 other coaches from various high schools including Chatsworth High School and Eagle Rock High School.

“I’m excited to be nominated by the Los Angeles Chargers for Flag Football Coach of the Week,” Mr. Cox said. “It’s great to be recognized, but it’s the hard work of the girls on the team which should be recognized.”

This nomination is awarded to coaches who have made a difference in the lives of their players through leadership and dedication to their teams. The Chargers Coach of the Week Selection Committee decides who gets nominated for this award.

The committee is composed of California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) administrators, retired coaches and more. The winning coaches receive $1000 that goes to their respective school’s athletic programs.

On Tuesday afternoon, during eighth period, players from the flag football team were seen campaigning for students and teachers to vote for their coach.

Voting ends today, Sept. 17, 2025 at midnight. You can vote at Coach of Week | Los Angeles Chargers

“Please vote for coach Cox for the LA Chargers Coach of the Week award,” junior tight-end Tzunux Sanchez said. “It will be highly appreciated by our team.”
