A new king will rise in the city of Atlantis.

Warner Bros. Pictures released the extended five-minute trailer for “Aquaman,” an upcoming fantasy/action film that will premiere in theaters on Dec. 21.

Preceding the events of “Justice League,” the movie will provide the backstory of the Atlantean king.

Half-Atlantean and half-human Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the throne of Atlantis. Accompanied by Mera, warrior and daughter of King Nereus, Arthur embarks on a quest to find the trident that will unite the kingdoms of Atlantis. However, Arthur must face his brother, Orm Marius, for the throne.

The five-minute colorful trailer depicts a lighter tone of the movie, compared to previous DC films, including “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Justice League,” as it previews banter between Arthur and Mera.

The trailer concludes with an epic single take shot of Arthur and Mera battling the Black Manta and jumping from rooftop-to-rooftop.

Directed by James Wan, who is known for his works on “Saw” and “The Conjuring,” “Aquaman” stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius/Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta.
