FBI agents raided the headquarters of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the house of the district’s superintendent on Wednesday morning.

The FBI was executing search warrants at LAUSD headquarters and the home of the superintendent, Alberto Carvalho. According to The New York Times, the exact details of what the search was for had been sealed in court and the target of the investigation hasn’t been released.
Earlier, numerous news reports showed black SUVs and FBI agents at the upscale neighborhood overlooking the Pacific Ocean with two story homes. By mid-morning, the quiet scene on Parker Street outside Superintendent Carvalho’s house was restored.

The superintendent’s relationship with law enforcement was already tumultuous prior to the raid.
On Apr. 7, 2025, Homeland Security Investigations agents were turned away from two Los Angeles elementary schools; Russell Elementary and Lillian Elementary in South Los Angeles.
The agents had said they were conducting welfare checks on undocumented students. Mr. Carvalho assured that the agents were stopped and checked for proper identification which then they were turned away for not having the proper permission to enter the school.
At a press conference Mr. Carvalho confirmed that the agents were looking for five students in the first through sixth grades, who were identified as unaccompanied minors who had gone through the border.
It is unclear whether the raid and this event are related but as of now, the F.B.I. has not released further information on the purpose of their raid.
