Bottom line | The varsity baseball team went up against the Vaughn High School White Tigers and took a loss with a score of 2-1.

Highlights |

  • Both teams were able to get a run in the fifth inning which tied the game until the seventh inning where the White Tigers were able to take the lead with another run making the resulting score 2-1
  • Freshman and shortstop, Enzo Enciso started on the mound where he pitched the entire game with two strikeouts and ending with 106 pitches to the Tigers
  • Senior and catcher Nate Renard lead the team on the offensive side where he was the only one to hit a double
  • Renard was also the player who was able to hit the ball that allowed sophomore and outfielder Matthew Herrera in to score
  • Senior and first baseman Joaquin Boche led the team on defense, with 12 putouts

What’s next | The Wolves’ next two games are against the Grant High School Lancers. The first one being played away on Wednesday, April 30 and the second, at home on Friday, May 2.

Team thoughts | “We lost but we are still first in the league,” Boche said. “That’s our first loss in league and it’s really not any harm. We will come back and perform back at our normal selves sooner than later.”

Our thoughts | This was a rough game for the Wolves due to the fact that this ended their undefeated 7-0 streak in league. However, they do not see this as a setback because their main goal is not being undefeated, but sweeping through playoffs and remaining the top school in their league.

Isabel Valles, Athletics Editor
Through participating in multiple sports writing competitions, I was able to prove my commitment to the class and was chosen to become sports editor in my second year of journalism. My love for sports writing came around the time my love for sports developed around 6 years ago. Another thing I love about writing about sports is being able to inform and catch up readers about games that they may have missed. Currently I play three sports, flag football, track and field, and basketball. After high school I plan on attending either the University of Pennsylvania or the University of Santa Cruz. My goal for this year as editor is to become a better leader and learn from any mistakes that I might make in the process.
