Starting pitcher and outfielder Jeremy Henriquez (#8) gears up to hit a pitch.

The Bottom Line | The boys baseball team battled against the Canoga Park Hunters on Thursday, April 11 and squashed them 7-5.

Highlights |

  • Jeremy Henriquez (#8) pulled off an incredible performance, pitching the entire seven innings and striking out nine batters throughout the game.
  • There were two home runs hit by the Wolves this game. The first was hit by third baseman Marvin Rivera (#16) with two runners on base, putting the Wolves in the lead. 5-1 in just the second inning. The second home run was hit by outfielder Alejandro Diaz (#11), with the ball going over the left field fence, putting the team up 6-1.
  • The team also showed off their great defense, with senior Marvin Rivera and catcher Nate Renard making difficult plays with ease.

What’s Next | The team’s next game is on Saturday, April 20, at 10 a.m. against Sun Valley Magnet. Then, they return back home Monday, April 22 to play against San Fernando High School.

Team Thoughts | “I was really mad before the game because we shouldn’t have lost to them in the first game but the anger was also a good thing, we all play better when we’re mad,” third baseman Marvin Rivera said. “The home run felt great, and it was even better that I hit one against Canoga Park, just to show them who’s better.”

Our Thoughts | Walking into the game, the Wolves displayed a determined attitude. Following their loss against Canoga Park, they practiced the next three days to improve on the mistakes they made during that game. The practice clearly paid off because they made minimal mistakes and were able to hit two home runs against the Hunters. The Wolves have a very bright future ahead of them, so make sure to go out to support the team.

Isabel Valles, Athletics Editor
Through participating in multiple sports writing competitions, I was able to prove my commitment to the class and was chosen to become sports editor in my second year of journalism. My love for sports writing came around the time my love for sports developed around 6 years ago. Another thing I love about writing about sports is being able to inform and catch up readers about games that they may have missed. Currently I play three sports, flag football, track and field, and basketball. After high school I plan on attending either the University of Pennsylvania or the University of Santa Cruz. My goal for this year as editor is to become a better leader and learn from any mistakes that I might make in the process.
