Chromakopia : Tyler, The Creator’s new album

After three years of no music, fans were on the edge of their seats just waiting to connect those headphones, close their eyes and simply immerse themselves in Tyler, The Creator’s new album, ‘Chromakopia’.

The teaser dropped for the first song of the album, “St. Chroma,” on Oct.16 which caused people to theorize who might be featured on this album.

Thousands of fans thought 21 Savage might be featured, while others theorized Daniel Caesar and Kendrick Lamar, or even Frank Ocean thinking they heard some of their vocals in the back of the teaser.

On Oct. 28 at 6 a.m E.S.T, only two weeks after the teaser dropped, the fateful day came.

With the first song, “St. Chroma,” being fully released, it easily became the most popular song.

This song sets the tone for the entire album with Tyler’s humorous lyrics mixing into his hard beats and soft melodies right off the bat. It immediately hyped me up for what was to come.

One of my favorite songs was ‘Tomorrow’ which is a slower contrast to the rest of the songs.

Tyler talks about the stress of his future and the pressure from his family to marry, settle down and get some grandkids around. He talks about the thought of having a child, and the fear he has surrounding it. Instead of the future he stresses the focus of tomorrow.

The track isn’t so soft that it becomes out of place on the whole album, but it’s different enough to move you in a way the rest of the songs fail to.

A fan favorite is the eighth song in the album, ‘Sticky’.

This song not only features Lil Wayne but also features upcoming female rappers GloRilla and Sexyy Red.

The beat gets into a space that makes you dance. You it was clear the artists had fun writing this song, which makes the listener want to have fun.

However, fun isn’t the only emotion I felt in this album.

I think that this album can easily be misunderstood if you don’t know the humor and style within Tyler’s songs. He created this album to approach serious topics, and even talks about not having a moment of peace as a celebrity in his song ‘NOID’.

Like always with Tyler, these beautifully curated songs discuss many topics in a fun and humorous way with a nice beat to go behind it.

Even with the songs that weren’t particularly my favorite, I could still find parts to love.
