The Golden Cougars claw down the Wolves

FOOTBALL | The Wolves played the Cougars but lost with a score of 8-52 on Sept. 16 at a home game.

  • Senior Gideon Dela Torre (#22) gets taken down after receiving the ball, making the Wolves lose their previous progress.

  • Marching band makes its first appearance at the game, supporting and playing their pop tunes for the team. Senior Miles Haloran plays a passionate solo for the game’s half-time show with the marching band.

  • The Wolves couldn’t hold back the Cougars’ strong offense for the entire game, securing their loss when the Cougars continued to score.

  • On Friday. Sept. 16, The Wolves went against Kennedy High School Golden Cougars on a home game. Though the Wolves ultimately lost with an end score of 52-8, the Wolves continued to fight until the the end.

  • A Golden Cougar readies to take down Devin Hoohulie (#4) before he scores a touchdown. While the Cougars’ offense was strong, the Wolves manage to penetrate their defense to score.

The bottom line | The football team played the Kennedy Cougars but lost with a score of 8-52 on Sept. 16 at a home game.

Highlights | 

  • Uriel Ruiz Rios #7, one of the captains, took a blow to the head. This led to a concussion, which caused him to miss the rest of the season.
  • Nathan Velasco #12 scores a touchdown led by his teammate Gideon Dela Torre #22.
  • Cesar Robles-Castillo #64 gave a speech to his teammates in order to motivate the team into playing by their roles, which helped in the second half of the game.

What’s next | The Wolves will take on Verdugo Hills in a home game on Sept. 23.

Team thoughts | “We played our efforts out there, but we weren’t mentally prepared. We are physically prepared, we did our sprints and all our conditioning but I feel like everyone needed more time with their mental game in terms of reading the playbook, and being able to tackle. This was such a winnable game, but the mental aspect of our team isn’t there, not yet at least.” says Gideon Dela Torre, #22.
