The Mirror Receives National Recognition in 36th Gold Circle Awards
Various the Mirror staff members from the year 2018-2019 won eight awards in the 36th Gold Circle Awards.

The Mirror won eight awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s (CSPA) 36th Gold Circle Awards program in 2019.
CSPA is an international student press association which aims to unite student journalists and advisors at schools through education conferences, critiques and award programs.
“Bad Behavior” designed by Margarita Hovsepyan and Lucas Shim won first place for Newsmagazine Cover and Typography for the design of the page. “The Evil is US” designed by the staff also won first place in Typography for the designed headline.
The Current Events section took first place for News Page Design while the Arts Etcetera section of the Oct. 2018 issue won third place in Single-Page Design. The Comment and Opinion page designed by Holden Mandell received an honorable mention for Op-Ed Page Design.
“Tales from the Classroom” won second place for Alternative Story Presentation.
“UTLA Strike Update — What Comes Next” by Gina Kim and Mhar Tenorio won third place for Briefs Writing.
“I feel really grateful and shocked as well. I didn’t expect to get an award, but it feels really fulfilling to be recognized for your work in journalism,” says Tenorio.
