President Trump signed the Senate-passed funding package into law ending the longest U.S government shutdown in history. Announced Wednesday, Nov. 12, the legislation extends funding for most federal operations and agencies until Jan. 30. The government shutdown impacted thousands of federal workers, food benefits, and air travel problems.
Trump Administration’s proposes to cut funding for long-term homeless housing
The Trump Administration is proposing to replace long-term homeless housing to short term transitional solutions. This proposal to shift towards transitional housing requires work to build independence and a self-sufficient life for struggling individuals. According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, “the new policies will ‘restore accountability’ and promote ‘self-sufficiency’ by exploring the ‘root causes of homelessness.’”
Trump’s Boat Strike Campaign
The United States continues conducting strikes against alleged drug boats to prevent narcotics from entering the U.S. Since Sept. 2 and Nov. 13, U.S. forces struck 21 vessels in 20 separate strikes in international and local waters. These strikes were initiated by the Trump Administration, which justified them by saying it was a necessary self-defense measure. The administration also argued that strikes are necessary to stem the flow of drugs to the U.S.
