Highlights |

  • In the first set, the Wolves were right on the Regents’ backs but fell short at the end, losing the set 25-21.
  • Middle blocker Kenzey Jones, (#11) contributed a lot to winning the set, preventing the Regent’s from getting kills
  • Disaster struck for the Wolves in the second set when their offense and defense started to fall apart, losing the set 25-7
  • In the third set, they started to reawaken and kept the score close but this wasn’t enough to stop the Regents from scoring. They still lost the set, 25-16
  • Libero Joanie Isidro (#25) played amazing defense, receiving the spikes and serves, keeping the scores of the sets much closer
  • Samantha Sirichai (#13) was a huge factor for the Wolve’s offense, getting multiple kills
  • Unfortunately for the Wolves, their game ended in the fourth set where they weren’t able to stop the Regents superior offense, losing the final set 25-18, and ultimately the game, 4-1

What’s Next | After the devastating loss, the team is hoping to make a comeback in their next game, which will be against the Northridge Academy Pumas on Friday, Aug. 8, at home.

Team thoughts | “I think today’s game went terribly for us, losing against a team we defeated twice last year. I hope that our practicing will pay off, and we will play better for the remainder of the season,” said varsity captain, Adrienne Mita.

Our thoughts | The team played an adequate game, holding their ground against the Regents. Although they lost, there has definitely been some improvement in their offense and defense. With more practice during the season, they will have end the season with a solid record in their division.

For the books |

From watching sports to playing them, I have always been inclined to write about the new athletic events that occur at our school. As a sophomore at Van Nuys High, I am going into my second year of journalism, not just to write about the games, but to uncover the background and details of the talented athletes that play them. Whenever I’m not on my laptop typing about an athlete or game, I am trying to perfect leche flan.

Even though I will most likely never fulfill this dream, I could totally see myself as a florist and possibly owning a flower shop. Whenever I receive flowers I love to preserve them and keep them around as decoration. I find taking the time to arrange the flowers in a visually appealing way very calming. As a first-year senior in journalism, I am glad to say I am a photographer and I am excited to be able to capture the moments in life that everyone wants to remember. My primary interest in photography is to learn how to use a camera. If you don’t see me playing with flowers or taking pictures, I am most likely napping as that is my true number one hobby.
