Wolves basketball triumphed over Reseda High 67-35

Van Nuys Wolves won against Reseda Regents 67-35 home Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, previously losing to Kennedy Cougars.

Why it matters:

The win moves Van Nuys to 5-19 overall and 4-4 in Valley Mission League, keeping them five games behind league-leading Sylmar for first place.

What they’re saying:

“As captain, I don’t really feel as much pressure except trying to figure out what to say to my team,” Senior Jaden Gervacio said. “I think we will stand at the top during our playoffs.”
Coach Isaac Wise also shared his thoughts.
“We had a strong defense that gave us easy points,” he said. “That’s what we need every game.”

The big picture:

Van Nuys has won three of their last 10 games, winning mainly against the bottom half standings of Valley Mission League play.

Yes, but:

Van Nuys (5-19, 4-4) has won this match but they could potentially lose their 4th-place spot to Canoga Park Hunters (7-15, 4-4) in their league.

What’s next:

Van Nuys hosts Senior night against Sylmar Spartans (10-12, 8-0) Friday at 5:30 p.m. in a game that could determine if they make the playoffs.

Jack Manansala, a freshman, is on the staff of The Mirror, the award-winning student newspaper and website at Van Nuys High School in Los Angeles. Some people don’t know this about him, but he loves to play volleyball since he believes jumping high means breaking free from any height. When relaxing or bored, he spends his time listening to music or watching anime, especially romance. During school, outside of journalism, he spends time playing with the school tennis team from morning to late afternoon as he finds it a sport that is both challenging and valuable for college applications. After high school, Manansala looks forward to being accepted to Cal State Long Beach for a business major, aiming to work in real estate and travel to Japan in the meantime. He loves Japan for the culture and beautiful views, hoping to inspire him in more writing and art. In essence, he is a very outgoing but polite person, ready to explore.

Joel Sosa, a junior, is on the staff of The Mirror, the award-winning student newspaper and website at Van Nuys High School in Los Angeles. He is looking forward to interviewing students on the spot and is excited to bring people onto The Mirror’s staff podcast. Outside of school, he works to carry out his dream of becoming a professional baker and boxer. He’s open to talk about all types of topics with no filter and will give honest and sincere responses.
