The bottom line | The boy’s basketball team won 60-34 against the Legacy Tigers in the second round of the 2022 CIF LA City Section Boys’ Basketball Championships (Division II).
What’s next | The Wolves will face the Hollywood Sheiks next on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. in the semi-finals. The boys from Van Nuys will face an even tougher match, as the Sheiks will have home-court advantage.
Hollywood High is ranked first in their central league and have a 11-1 league record and a 19-7 overall record. The team compares relatively evenly with the Wolves.
Our thoughts | The opponents boast a strong record and have also had a very successful season. Particular attention should be placed on Gary Lira Jr. (#1) who has helped lead the Sheiks with an average 22 points per game.
Though this team will be their greatest challenge so far, the Wolves have beaten the previous two teams in the tournament by double digits. The team looks locked in and should have the added confidence from these victories to play a strong match on Wednesday.
The Wolves are just one step away from the finals. The community at Van Nuys is desperate for a winning team to come home with the trophy this season. A lot is riding on the boys basketball team. Let’s hope that they can validate our trust and bring home the much-needed win.
