Class of 2018 Commencement

After four years of unforgettable memories and experiences, the Class of 2018 left their final mark on Van Nuys High School.
On June 7, hundreds of students proudly walked the stage amidst the cheers from family members, friends, and administrators, each stride filled with a bittersweet sense of accomplishment and nostalgia as they leave behind a place of familiarity,
The commencement began at 7 p.m. on the VNHS football field. Senior Advisor Ms. Jann Carr and Senior Class President Mayln Omisore opened with a welcoming address, followed by the presentation of colors by ROTC.
The ceremony proceeded with four speeches by the top students of the residential and magnet programs. Claire Lee delivered the Magnet Salutatorian speech, followed by Elizabeth Velasquez delivering the Residential Salutatorian speech. Micaela Soria and Monica Adams delivered the Valedictorian speeches for the Magnet and Residential programs respectively.
Principal Yolanda Gardea gave a speech, and immediately afterwards diplomas were presented to the Class of 2018. The ceremony ended with Imagine Dragon’s “It’s Time” playing alongside a showcase of fireworks.
