Why it matters: With the original “Ready or Not” already being a cult favorite, this sequel unpredictably expands the already highly immersive world of unnatural wealth, power and survival. The franchise feels fresh instead of repetitive while continuing right from where the prequel ended.
The craft: Directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin keep the pacing tight, rarely letting the tension slow down. The cinematography makes great use of a wide range of spaces from dark candle lit spaces and dense forest, to royalty radiating hotels and structures. The use of practical effects and creative kills push the horror element further than the first movie, balancing shocking moments with absurd comedy that lands more often than it misses.
The moment: The edge of the seat finale performance by Samara Weaving to conclude the film’s ecstatic storyline is chaotic to say the least but deeply satisfying leaving viewers with a great sense of peace of mind knowing their fearless, heroic and hilarious lead role idol emerged victorious.
Bottom line: “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” deserves its praise and runtime that any horror comedy fan needs to experience for themselves in theaters now.
