2025 Los Angeles Comic Con Kicks Off
On Sept. 26, the Los Angeles Convention Center kicked off its annual Los Angeles Comic Con, a three-day event perfect for all comic book, video game and anime fans. LA Comic Con has become a cultural icon, hosting special events for notable franchises including Marvel, DC Comics and Star Wars. Fans also have the opportunity to interact with some of pop culture’s biggest stars, with this year’s line up featuring Charlie Cox from Marvel’s “Daredevil: Born Again” series and Bryce Dallas Howard from “The Mandalorian.” Whether you’re an experienced cosplayer or a new comic fan, LA Comic Con is full of fun opportunities to explore pop culture’s latest obsessions.
d4vd’s Downfall and Celeste
The mutilated body of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez was discovered in the trunk of popular singer d4vd’s Tesla on Sept. 8. d4vd has not been formally charged but reportedly complied with orders to relinquish his electronics for investigation. Neck deep in controversy, the singer cancelled the remaining dates of his U.S. and European tours. Since the incident, the internet has noted eerie parallels behind tracks like “Romantic Homicide,” which features the lyric “In the back of my mind, you died.” More graphically, the music video for the song “One More Dance” depicts d4vd dragging a bloodied body to a car trunk, a disturbing similarity to the death of Celeste, his speculated girlfriend.
Doja Cat’s “Vie”
Rapper Doja Cat returns with another hit album titled “Vie.” Released on Sept. 26, the album was selected as the week’s favorite new release in a fan music poll on Billboard, beating out Mariah Carey’s “Here For It All” and Tate Mcrae’s “Tit for Tat.” The album dives deeper into Doja Cat’s pop sound, channeling 80s disco energy in “Take Me Dancing” with a feature from SZA. Before the release, Doja performed the lead single “Jealous Type” at the 2025 VMAs alongside saxophonist Kenny G.
